Crypto Exchanges Glossary
6 terms from the Investing & Digital Assets book's Crypto Exchanges part, each defined in a line and linked to the chapter that explains it.
- Confirmation (chain): a block added after the block holding a transaction; exchanges credit some chains' deposits after a set count (Kraken: three for bitcoin) (The Investing & Digital Assets Business).
- Deposit address: a chain address, or a shared address plus a memo or tag, assigned to one customer account so incoming transfers can be credited to it (The Investing & Digital Assets Business).
- Finality: the point after which a chain's block can't be reverted short of a prohibitive cost; on Ethereum, a finalized checkpoint, which an attacker would need to sacrifice at least one-third of staked ETH to revert (The Investing & Digital Assets Business).
- Omnibus wallet: one wallet holding many customers' crypto in the custodian's name, with the internal ledger recording each customer's share (The Investing & Digital Assets Business).
- Reorg (reorganization): a chain replacing its most recent blocks with a different sequence, which can remove a transaction that had been seen in a block (The Investing & Digital Assets Business).
- Sweep (crypto): an on-chain transaction moving funds from deposit addresses into the exchange's hot or cold wallets; it changes where an asset is, not whose (The Investing & Digital Assets Business).
