Investing & Digital Assets, chapter 45 of 45
Investing & Digital Assets Glossary
Every investing and digital assets term by part: the business, accounts, trading, clearing, wealth, chains, exchanges, custody, stablecoins, DeFi and the rules.
Investing borrows its words from securities law, accounting and a century of back-office operations, and crypto adds a vocabulary of its own from cryptography and chain design, so the same word shifts with context: a settlement is a clearing house obligation on one screen and a chain transaction reaching finality on another, a position is a ledger claim to a broker and an address balance to a block explorer, a reserve is a broker's customer protection deposit and a stablecoin issuer's backing assets, and a confirmation is a Rule 10b-10 notice to a customer and a block on top of a deposit to an exchange. Entries are grouped by the part of the volume that explains them, alphabetized within each group, and each is one line and a link to the chapter that owns the idea; a word with two meanings appears once per meaning, qualified. Terms the Payments and Banking & Lending glossaries already define keep their definitions. The volume's own names for the core records (legal entity, party, party identity, account, account party, instrument, chain, asset network, venue, order, order event, execution, journal entry, journal line, position, tax lot, lot closing, settlement, transfer, wallet, address, on-chain transaction, asset event, fee schedule, fee, disclosure, reconciliation, recon break, case) are the ones in The Core Data Model.
